We’ve had a lovely first half term and all our new little ones have settled in really well. We’ve had a busy few weeks of playing, cooking, painting, making and role playing. And we’ve had lots of time outdoors as well due to the beautiful autumn weather we’ve been lucky enough to have.
The term started off really warm with no need for coats or wellies at all, in fact the children were still wearing sun hats! It was great to see them all discovering all the toys and enjoying activities in our garden. They’ve played pirates on the pirate ship, raced the balance bikes and scooters, cooked in the mud kitchen and built very creative structures with the new wooden Outlast building blocks.
It’s getting a bit colder now but the sun is still shining so we’re still playing outside with our coats on and wellies are needed some days as well. Don’t forget to send your children with their wellies and please make sure they’re labelled clearly with the names!
As well as all our outdoor play we’ve practiced our fine motor skills indoors with lots of different activities, including making shapes with Playdoh, building models with Duplo and Stickle Bricks, drawing, mixing paint colours using our hands and then making hand print pictures, baking and lots more.
The children always seem to love using their imaginations in role play so the kitchen, the shop and the office equipment are always popular choices! The staff have also been patients at the doctor’s surgery, customers at the hairdressers and passengers on the train. We’ve been to the (pretend) zoo and cured all the poorly animals at the vet’s surgery!
Every day we get out different toys and equipment to see where they will lead the children in their roleplay and every day we’re pleased and surprised to hear the new ideas that they come up with. We’ve all had a lovely half term and look forward to coming back after half term to see where we’re taken then.
Happy half term everyone!
